After two weeks of snow and ice covered ground with single digit temperatures and a week to let it all dry out I was ready to go for a ride. Of course, I think River was more excited and ready than I was! Target was a little less than excited since trail rides require some effort on his part, but I think he was getting a little stir crazy from being stuck in his pasture too.
I was hoping for a fairly slow-paced, relaxing, and calm trail ride.
Surprisingly, that's exactly what I got!
Why was I surprised? Well, Target may be 21 years old (that's old in horse years) but there's no stopping the Thoroughbred sometimes. He seems to forget that he's a little arthritic and has been known to take off, freak out, and basically test my patience in every way possible. Especially when we haven't ridden in a while. I was certainly thankful to have a 'Quarter Horse day' and get to sit back and relax.
This was my view:
Until River decided it was time to go off and do his own thing:
I was in heaven.
Can I just have this kind of Saturday everyday?

Snow Day 4
The fourth day of no work and too much snow and ice we ate breakfast with the Pepper's at IHOP and then spent the afternoon hanging out at the barn.
River doing whatever it is River enjoys doing at the barn:
(with his booties!)
Target!
Kristian and Tobi played a little ball, of course!
Target's friend Arthur, he lives in the pasture across the path:
Watching the ball playing. He's not a fan of that (or Tobi).
Target and Arthur:
It was a nice change to get out of the house!

Snow Day 3
Day 3 brought about a trip to Petsmart, Petco, and Hastings to battle the boredom for everyone. After that we headed out to the field behind our house to let the dogs run around a little since we definitely weren't going to make it to the horse barn.
We put some booties on River to combat the 'snow balls'. He wasn't happy at first, but decided he could deal with it!
And then River went bunny hunting:
We also got a picture of Target from the barn:
Obviously he's alive and well. Hopefully we can venture out to see him tomorrow!

Snow Day 2!
Yesterday we shoveled snow, took a couple of walks, and watched the dogs play in the snow. Today we headed to the grocery store in an effort to ward off cabin fever, went on another walk, and played a little frisbee with Tobi (we're getting bored around here!):
River was a little less than impressed to be back out in the cold.
Snow Drift!
Still not impressed.
Warning: This is what happens to your face when you slobber in 10 degree temperatures:
(note the chin-cicles)
River and I lounged on a knee high snow drift.
He was ready to go inside.
And that pretty much sums up our uneventful day!
Snow Day!
Thanks to the snow and ice we didn't have to go to work. So we bundled up and ventured out to play. The dogs loved it (well Tobi did and River for about 5 seconds).
Tobi kept sniffing the snow in search of something?!?:
River contemplated jumping the snow drift:
Of course there was wrestling and playing involved:
Until someone got a face full of snow and didn't like it:
(sorry it's not centered, but moving dogs are hard to capture)
If you know River you know he has grinch feet. They like to collect snow:
Unlike Tobi's:
A game of ball ensued and Tobi had to go digging through the snow drifts:
And then some fun pics just because:
It was fun, it was cold, and we are thankful for a home with heat and a fireplace!
